Sunset at the Abbey: Brass & More

On Sunday, August 26 at 4:00 pm, Atlantic Symphony Chamber Players continue their popular tradition of a summer’s-end concert in the idyllic setting on the lawn at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham.

Featured musicians include Innovata, a brass quintet that includes Atlantic Symphony trumpeter Matt Ara. The five musicians have performed around the world and have appeared with such renowned organizations as the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, the United States Navy's premier jazz ensemble - The Commodores, and other world class ensembles. Innovata has played aboard the historic U.S.S. Constitution by invitation of the United States Navy, at PNC Park by invitation of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, on various public radio stations and at the famous Liederkranz Club in New York City. The wide range of experience that each person brings to the group compliments the versatile classical, jazz, Dixieland and swing repertoire Innovata presents. Plus, Innovata places special emphasis on education. All of the musicians have their own private music studios and/or hold college level teaching positions. Wherever they travel, Innovata always tries to make themselves available to young audiences.

Also on the program are sets by Atlantic Symphony clarinetist Juliet Lai, oboist Mie Shiraishi, and pianist Konstantinos Papadakis.

Bring a beach chair or blanket and picnic, to celebrate an evening of fun and relaxing music in the company of friends.

$15 adults, $10 seniors, youth through age 18 free. Tickets available at the gate, or in advance at La Petite Maison, Hingham Square, Buttonwood Books, Cohasset, Abbey Bookstore. Call 781-740-5694 for more information.

This group from Boston immediately broke any ice between themselves and the audience by their humorous but informative banter between pieces and playful visual movements. This relaxed atmosphere helped make the music much more accessible to younger listeners without demeaning its underlying beauty."

"You have a class act that goes far beyond your excellent musicianship. Your rapport with the audience is second to none, clearly entertaining, teaching, and delighting your audience."
